Spring 2010 Furniture Fashions

2010 Furniture Fashions and TrendsAlong with the changing seasons comes new and exciting furniture trends. This year the key word to sum up the main furniture trend is stimulating!

Leading off this year’s exciting trends are brilliant and daring colors. Neutral colored throw pillows placed against bright colorful sofas with will be the fashion this year. This is the opposite of years past where neutral colored couches with bright pillows were making their ways into everyone’s home.

Enhancing the look of bright colors are grays and metallic accents. These darker colors and styles will allow the bright colors of your furniture to pop even more, increasing their style. Gray is the hot neutral color being used this year to showcase bright furniture.

Not getting left behind in this year’s up and coming trends is comfort and flexibility. More than ever, we need furniture that will serves multi-purposes and maximizes the space in our homes. Modular furniture like sofa recliners, futons, and  pull out beds will be a huge part of this trend.

One major trend that is reinventing itself and making its way around again is Asian styled furniture. Having fallen out of favor of designers decades ago, many Asian influences are starting to peek their way into homes. Japanese art inspired fabrics, gentler than years past, will influence many designs.

Finally, gaining momentum every year, eco-friendly furniture is continuing its growth into the furniture industry.  Environmentally friendly furniture is going to a huge trend for years to come.

Visit Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® to bring these trends into your home today!

Protecting Your Mattress

Protect Your Mattress

You spend a third of your life on your Sealy™ mattress from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Bedding Collection, recharging your batteries for tomorrow’s tasks. One of the most important furniture pieces you own deserves to be protected from liquid stains that can penetrate your sheets and leave foul odors and stains on your bedding.

Protecting your mattress from liquids such as urine, sweat, drinks and food is pretty simple: just keep it covered. Don’t put a garbage bag under the sheets and make your child sleep on a human noise maker all night, giving them the gift of grumpiness.  Instead, cover your mattress and pillows with a Royal Heritage® Mattress Protector and Royal Heritage® Pillow protector, which works to keep any type of liquid from leaving stains or odors behind. Our mattress protectors will keep your mattress fresh, allow you to sleep in a peaceful state and preserve your warranty coverage.

There are additional steps you can take to keep your mattress clean. Vacuuming the mattress is the only technique Sealy™   recommends. If the unthinkable does happen and some type of liquid reaches the mattress, Sealy™  recommends using only mild soap and cold water, and applying it lightly. Don’t ever soak a mattress or box spring, and don’t use dry cleaning solvents which could damage the construction materials .

Royal Heritage® Mattress Protectors and Royal Heritage® Pillow protectors are available through Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® as a part of our Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Bedding Collection.

Save your back, flip your mattress

king-mattress-setI’m not going to lie. I flipped my mattress a grand total of 0 times this year. How about you? When we asked around we got a wide range of answers as to how many times its necessary to flip a mattress. Some said once a year. Twice. Five times. Someone even said 104 times a year.

So what is the correct number? The answer to this depends on the person sleeping on the mattress, and, more importantly, on whether or not they’re sharing that mattress with someone else.

When first introduced to this crazy concept of mattress flipping, my first response was “Why would I ever do that?” Well, the answer is simple. To make the mattress last longer and sag less, both of which will save your back in the long-run. A mattress that is regularly flipped can last from 5-7 years longer. But what constitutes a “regular” amount of flipping? Was the person who recommended flipping twice a week for a total of 104 times a year right? Not exactly. Flipping a mattress once a month should suffice to prevent irregular wear.

If you do not flip your mattress, permanent sag will eventually set in, and it’s not always the kind of wear and tear that’s immediately visible. Sags tend to form in the middle of the mattress where bodies meet. The pressure from those bodies can cause springs to loosen, robbing the sleeper of the full support they need for rest.

Remember, it’s not enough to flip the mattress from left to right but from the head of the bed to the tail. This way, the whole mattress is being equally stressed.

So you want to buy Eco-friendly furniture

ECO_FriendlyKeeping up with one of the major trends in today’s economy, the furniture market is now throwing their hat into the ring by offering Eco-friendly furniture to the public. Now, unless you’re an Eco-expert, you might be wondering how furniture made of wood could ever be considered “Eco-friendly.” After all, wood does come from trees….right? Luckily for us there is a set of standards that determine whether or not a piece of furniture can be considered Eco-friendly.
•    The first classification is the most obvious. Is the furniture made of some other material that is not wood-based? Using a material other than wood shows that the manufacture of this product is not using resources from nature for the sole purpose of creating furniture.
•    The second classification is a bit surprising. There is a certification that has been developed by the Forest Stewardship Council that labels a piece of furniture as Eco-Friendly. In order for a piece of furniture to be certified as Eco-friendly, the manufacturer must demonstrate that they are replanting trees in place of trees being cut down. So, just because a piece of furniture is made of wood doesn’t necessarily mean that piece isn’t Eco-friendly.
•    A final classification for Eco-friendly furniture is how much extra comes with it. Many people who are Eco-conscious believe furniture that is kind to the environment should be simple , using the bare minimum for wood, padding, vinyl, fabric, and leather. Simple styles and less-is-more design are key when considering whether a piece of furniture is Eco-friendly.
There you go. If finding furniture that is kind to the environment is very important to you, the above criteria should be helpful in your shopping endeavor.  Furniture doesn’t necessarily needed to be stamped “Eco-friendly” in order for it to be considered kind to the environment. Just look at the extras and decide if it fits into your standards.

PMD Furniture Direct, who proudly sells Royal Heritage Home Furnishings, held its National Sales Conference in beautiful Glendale, Arizona

PMD Furniture Direct™, who proudly sells Royal Heritage Home Furnishings™, recently completed its National Sales Conference in Glendale, Ariz., January 10 – 14. Held at the Renaissance Glendale, this was the first national sales conference hosted to help the company’s new roster of franchisees gear up for 2010. PMD executives and franchisees came together as a team to share and hear of the company’s plans and strategies, and to give franchisees the opportunity to preview new lines of furniture to help jump-start the new year via an exclusive Furniture Market.

The conference, themed “We are go for launch!”, highlighted the new offerings. PMD Founder, CEO and President Jeff Hosking and the PMD executive team provided updates on the company’s private label furniture brand, Royal Heritage Home Furnishings™, and various internet-related strategies that are in the process of being rolled out to the franchisees. The agenda included sessions focused on generating higher profits, building stronger organizations and improving presentation and selling skills.

The conference also featured a presentation by Joel Weldon, a highly sought after motivational speaker and sales training consultant. Weldon enthusiastically reminded conference-goers to be adaptable to change, harness the power of teamwork, and have the courage to be unstoppable to achieve their goals.

“It’s an exciting time to be a part of PMD,” said Hosking. “Despite a questionable economy, we are adding new franchisees and have experienced steady sales at retail. We remain positioned to continue offering our retail customers affordable options to help them furnish their homes while providing the support and tools needed by our franchisees to operate successful businesses.”

The company held its annual awards ceremony during the conference, in which Hosking announced the 2009 Sales Champions, 2010 President’s Club inductees and winners as well as the PMD All-American winners. These programs recognize top performing PMD franchise owners with exciting prizes including an all-expense paid trip to a worldwide destination, this year to be held at the Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita, Mexico.

PMD is a leader in the furniture industry, and with their new franchise model, they can offer a nearly recession-proof business platform to PMD franchisees because of their low-overhead, profitable approach to retail. Their system-wide sales are projected to reach $150 million in 2015, making PMD one of the fastest growing retail franchises in the country.
