Your children’s room is very special to them. It is one of the few places in the home they call their own and many times it will be their personal place of peace. The kinds of furniture you furnish their room with will make or break their bedroom and can create a very un-enjoyable environment.
Selecting the correct pieces of furniture is absolutely necessary. The following steps will help in the process of assembling a perfect youth bedroom.
1. Find out what he or she wants in their room. They are the ones that are going to be spending all their time there. So make sure it is filled with things they would want.
2. Color schemes. This is vital when buying furniture. Lots of kids’ bedroom sets come in assorted color schemes so discuss with your child the color scheme he or she likes best.
3. Based on how much space you have to work with, the bed is the most essential piece of furniture you will buy. so Make sure it is as convenient as it is comfortable. Your choices will consist of day beds, bunk bed, lofts, day beds, and storage beds.
4. A night stand is next on the list. You child will need a place to put an alarm clock or their glasses once it is time for bed.
5. Your child most likely will have homework and thus needs a place to do it. Find a desk that he or she can easily fit into, preferably with a book shelf. Homework is not fun, so make sure their desk is comfortable. Find a matching, comfortable chair for the desk also.
6. Finally, for extra storage, a dresser, armoire, or trunk will work well and keep the room clutter free.

When designing a bedroom your children will love, visit your local PMD Furniture Direct ™ franchisee and get those perfect kid bedroom pieces from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings Collection so your children will have a place they can call their own.

A parent’s most important job in life is to protect their children. From the day they are born, it is our constant mission to ensure their surroundings are free from danger. We baby proof the house, buy organic food and check the lead levels on their age-appropriate toys.

But how can we watch over and protect them when everyone is asleep, with many children snuggly tucked into bed several feet off the ground? Bunk Beds are one of the most popular beds for youth bedroom furniture. Besides being a real space saver, there is something appealing to kids that makes sleeping high off the ground awesome!

Here are a few precautions you can follow that will help make your child’s bunk bed more secure.

Make sure your child is old enough to sleep in a bunk bed. Check the age recommendations when shopping for a bed, and have your child test out the bed before you buy it. They should be able to easily climb into and out of the bed by themselves.

The top bunk should always have a guardrail on all four sides, even if it will be placed against a wall. There should be no more than 9 centimeters (3.54 inches) between the bottom of the rail and the frame of the bed to prevent the child from becoming trapped between the rail and the frame.

It’s essential to use the proper size mattress on your bunk bed. Make sure the mattress you buy fits snugly against all edges of the bed frame. If you buy an extra long bunk bed, make sure the mattress is extra long as well.

You spend a third of your life on your Sealy™ mattress from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Bedding Collection, recharging your batteries for tomorrow’s tasks. One of the most important furniture pieces you own deserves to be protected from liquid stains that can penetrate your sheets and leave foul odors and stains on your bedding.

Protecting your mattress from liquids such as urine, sweat, drinks and food is pretty simple: just keep it covered. Don’t put a garbage bag under the sheets and make your child sleep on a human noise maker all night, giving them the gift of grumpiness. Instead, cover your mattress and pillows with a Royal Heritage® Mattress Protector and Royal Heritage® Pillow protector, which works to keep any type of liquid from leaving stains or odors behind. Our mattress protectors will keep your mattress fresh, allow you to sleep in a peaceful state and preserve your warranty coverage.

There are additional steps you can take to keep your mattress clean. Vacuuming the mattress is the only technique Sealy™ recommends. If the unthinkable does happen and some type of liquid reaches the mattress, Sealy™ recommends using only mild soap and cold water, and applying it lightly. Don’t ever soak a mattress or box spring, and don’t use dry cleaning solvents which could damage the construction materials .

Royal Heritage® Mattress Protectors and Royal Heritage® Pillow protectors are available through Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® as a part of our Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Bedding Collection.

I’m not going to lie. I flipped my mattress a grand total of 0 times this year. How about you? When we asked around we got a wide range of answers as to how many times its necessary to flip a mattress. Some said once a year. Twice. Five times. Someone even said 104 times a year.

So what is the correct number? The answer to this depends on the person sleeping on the mattress, and, more importantly, on whether or not they’re sharing that mattress with someone else.

When first introduced to this crazy concept of mattress flipping, my first response was “Why would I ever do that?” Well, the answer is simple. To make the mattress last longer and sag less, both of which will save your back in the long-run. A mattress that is regularly flipped can last from 5-7 years longer. But what constitutes a “regular” amount of flipping? Was the person who recommended flipping twice a week for a total of 104 times a year right? Not exactly. Flipping a mattress once a month should suffice to prevent irregular wear.

If you do not flip your mattress, permanent sag will eventually set in, and it’s not always the kind of wear and tear that’s immediately visible. Sags tend to form in the middle of the mattress where bodies meet. The pressure from those bodies can cause springs to loosen, robbing the sleeper of the full support they need for rest.

Remember, it’s not enough to flip the mattress from left to right but from the head of the bed to the tail. This way, the whole mattress is being equally stressed.

As you welcome houseguests this season, here are some ways to make sure they have a comfortable stay:

Spruce up your spare bedroom with holiday accessories and seasonal displays.

Arrange the furniture to take advantage of any outside views, yet make sure your guests can close shades and blinds for privacy.

Stock the room with a water bottle, current magazine, box of tissues, small trash can, alarm clock and nightlight.

Clean and flip or rotate the mattress according to the directions on the manufacturer’s label.

Wash the mattress pad before making the bed with crisp, freshly laundered sheets.

Keep an extra blanket and pillow nearby for cold winter nights.

Empty a dresser drawer or provide hanging space in an armoire or closet for your guest’s clothing and personal items.

A small chair and reading lamp gives your guests a place to unwind and relax.
